Sony BRAVIA XBR55HX929 55-Inch 1080p 3D Local-Dimming LED HDTV with Built-In Wi-Fi

Sony BRAVIA XBR-55HX929 3D LED HDTV, obtain its performance advantage from a full-array LED backlight with local dimming. In contrast, the other LCD models all use edge-lit LED backlights, which are known to contribute to uneven picture uniformity, especially in dark movie scenes. But the ability of the 55HX929 to sail through those same scenes with no problem gives it a substantial edge over edge-lit models.
Sony's solid picture is accompanied by elegant looks, with a single Gorilla Glass sheet serving as the frameless set's entire front. There's integrated Wi-Fi, and its streaming options include Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, and Hulu Plus. The out-of-box picture is for the most part accurate — a good thing, since the set lacks the more advanced picture-adjustment options found on some other high-end flat-panels.
How does it look? When it came to 3D, A1 Griffin characterized the picture as "solid without being overly dim." The set's accurate color and deep, well-defined shadows also made 2D movies a treat. In the movie 13 Assassins on Blu-ray, "candles lining the hallway gave off a bright, piercing light that didn't fade in intensity, even as the set's local-dimming feature managed to maintain a consistently deep level of black." Let's see an edge-lit LED model do that!

Samsung UN55D7000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV

Samsung started LED HDTVs with black and rose-colored hues for their initial product of backlit HDTVs. Though Samsung UN55D7000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV (Silver), looks nothing like it's predecessors. This slim TV is framed by a thin and beautiful acrylic border to give it that bezel-free appearance, and is topped off with Samsung's signature quad-stand base below. Samsung refers to it as the 'One design', and it's easily one of the prettiest screens.
To maintain the TV's slim profile, Samsung is still relying on breakout cables to reduce the number analog ports. At the digital end, a total of 4 HDMI ports and 3 USB slots have been catered for, with the audio-return feature enabled on HDMI port number two. The Series 7 is also able to decode both analog and digital signals, thanks to its integration of a DVT tuner.
Samsung has made little changes to its Smart Hub interface. Including, Explore 3D provides a handful of 3D trailers and educational clips, while the SingTel Video Store houses a mix of International content, with most TV dramas offered in standard definition.
Based on DisplayMate's and HQV's test results, the Series 7's inclination for vivid colors was unfortunately marred by its uneven backlights, caused no doubt by poor light distribution LEDs. Picture quality can be improved by enabling certain enhancements such as Black Tone. As for its video processor, we have no complains about its qualified noise filters and cadence algorithms, and that includes its de-interlacing operations as well.

BRILLIANT IN HD, BUT WITH MEDIOCRE 3D PERFORMANCE.
Leading the pack for the slew of new TV releases is the Samsung D8000, which is an amalgamation of all the latest technologies and newest features you can likely find on an HDTV today. This flagship model looks the part with its ultra-slim profile and 5mm brushed metal aluminum bezel which gives the display a borderless feel. A modern, minimalist look means that you would have no qualms making it the focal point of your living room.
One of the major draws of the D8000 is its Smart TV capabilities. Labeled as the Smart Huh, this feature really takes your viewing experience above and beyond that offered by regular models. You can now access the internet content on YouTube via a native application along with video-cn-demand, TV Shows and movies. To top it all off social networking has been integrated into the Smart Hub as well which means you can be logged In to Facebook and TWitter while watching your TV.
Samsung has not overlooked the core functionality of the D8000, wich performed admirably during our tests. Display for HD content was a particular high point with the LED Backlight providing a pleasant viewing experience. The screen suffered from neither light bleeding nor non-uniform display, which are two drawbacks found on some HDTVs with LED backlighting. Micro-dimming abilities also ensured that black tones were dutifully rendered. In fact, the Samsung D8000 seemed to have a dedicated menu option to adjust all important aspects of viewing, including flesh tone correction, noise reduction and motion enhancement. Excellent cadence detection and playback of 24p content provided further proof that this is a well-thought- out and well-engineered HDTV.

Samsung Series 8 D8000 3D LED HDTV
Unfortunately the D8000 falters when handling upscaled Standard Definition content as artifacts were clearly visible during our tests. Even after fiddling with the settings and calibration, no sign ficant improvement was achieved.Performance for 3D was similarly underwhelming and playback nad ghosting and cross-talk. The disappointing 3D capabilities of the Samsung D8000 are surprising since the feature is poised to become one of the most important for HDTVs to come.
Overall the samsung D8000 is a mixed bag. It works brilliantly in HD, but is merely average when it comes to SD content. On the other hand, it does have an expansive and well-executed Smart Hub catering to consumer needs, but then merely provides a mediocre 3D experience . If you just want a TV with excellent HD playback capability and 3D Support being a bonus, then we would recommend the D8000 in a heartbeat.
